Evaluation of the reactivity of treated spent pot lining from primary aluminum production as cementitious materials

Aluminum Spent Pot lining (SPL) is an industrial hazardous waste generated from aluminum electrolysis cells. The SPL separates in two parts, the first cut rich carbonaceous materials and second vitrified refractory. Treating by Low Caustic Leaching Liming (LCL&L) process generates inert non-hazardous residue, called LCLL Ash. This product mainly composed of stable crystalline phases such as corundum, albite, nepheline with some amount graphite. Ground a fine powder, Ash could be used cement supplementary cementitious material (SCM). paper focuses on investigation reactivity its improvement calcination at 1050°C. Reactivity was evaluated multiple tests, compressive strength activity index, Frattini test Rilem R3 tests followed XRD analysis. An SCMs (limestone, filler, quartz) reactive (slag, fly ash, silica fume) were references. results show that shows properties similar to quartz retarder effect below 7 days high alkali content.
